BLOG ? ETHOS

As Far As Ethos, which has to do with the the views of a particular person, group, or community, I would have to focus my attention on sports. It happens dozens of times a year and will continue to happen until the end of time, I would have to be speaking teams, professional and college, searching for their next head coach. Every Single time a team fires a coach or one resigns, a huge political game begins between fans and administrators to find the right fit for that team. Blogs are created, message boards are peppered, and every fan that has a subscription to rivals.com blurt out their views and opinions about potential candidates, some comments are fueled by egos, some by emotion, others blatant lies. usually its just people saying what they want without regard or even knowing anything about candidates. Examples of recent are that of Chizik, the new Auburn hire. Charles Barkley immediately opens his mouth saying that the only reason Auburn hired him was cause he was white and the other candidate was black. After his comments he became intoxicated and got a DUI.

Message boards would be a much more reliable source of information if the only people who posted knew information instead of bullshitting and speculating

Three things I would like to ask my interviewee for my ethnographic report.

1. I would like to know how he got his start in the entertainment writing bussiness, what were some of the challenges he faced as his career progressed, and if he were to advise somebody going into that certain field of work, what advise would he have for an aspiring writer.

-I think that question is very important to my interview because it really gets to the heart of writing. Every writer has started some way or another, they all have different views on how to write, getting to know what motivates them will help you understand their work and their writing process.

2. Second, I want to ask about his writing process. What does he start his work out with, does he brainstorm, free write, research topics. Also I want to know how he pieces his works together and if he has examples of pieces that didn't work for one project but he went back and used them for another.

-As a writer myself, recycling older material and making it better is half the battle. I want to see what a professional writers view on this practice is.

3. A third question I would like to know is how often does he sit down and write.

-I think that the most important part of being a writer is actually writing. There are so many people out there that say they are writers but never really write. In my opinion, in order to be a writer you need to work your craft almost every day. However, I do want to hear it from the horse's mouth. Not that I am interviewing a Horse, maybe next semester.

Rhet. Act.

One example of Rhetoric I notice in todays world is how newscasters on Television especially the Fox News Network like to bully opposing views. Perfect example is watch any show on that program, how is it set up? You have 3 extreme right wingers and 1 extreme leftist duke it out, and their goal is to make the leftist look incredible by attacking their views and making them defend it while building up their views with no criticism. I think that is the worst kind of journalism and gets nothing accomplished. In order for their to be an argument you have to let the other person express their sides instead of just blasting them from the get go. CNN is guilty of it too, but I guess I just hate the media, thats all I am trying to say.

Describe the features, functions, and student activity of a textbook for a single field, such as American History. Write a paper analyzing the genre.

History was one of my favorite subjects in high school. I think that a big thing for me was using the chapters to go through history as if it were on a timeline. If you’re studying American History, start the book right before the revolutionary war and go through time in a chronological order using each chapter as a period of time. That way if you know what happened before something and what happened after, it’s easier to remember the whole thing as a story.

I found that when books tend to jump around from one period in history to the next they become a little bit more difficult for me to follow. Activities and essay questions that make people think are usually helpful in describing and comprehending some of the events in history. Like those projects they would make you do where you would write a letter as a patriot to the British government and you would have to dip it in tea and burn the edges to make it look authentic.

I think that history is a very interesting subject, it is different than any other subject, it is a complete reflection of the human experience, we learn from it, and hopefully do it better the next time around. Yea it is a bunch of facts and names and places, but everything that happened made today what it is.

It was interesting to see Mandi analyise my hat and I think that her article is really successful in describing exactly what the object of interest looks like. She had a complete detailed description of the hat and even noticed things that I never noticed about it, like the frayed triangle pointing to the logo on the hats front.

During the interview process, Mandi did a lot of observing, while I am more of a quick glance and write as much as I can, she studied the hat up and down. I feel that her observational technique of interviewing is what helped her describe the object so well.

I was refreshing to talk with Mandi about the Hats logo and Origin. We both had an original Nintendo growing up, and both spend countless hours, in front of it, jamming our fingers on those four button controllers. There was duck hunt and Super Mario, all on the same game, I think Mandi put it best when she said the world was a "Simpler Place."

I think that the most interesting part about this exercise was to see somebody elses experiance with something that was a big part of my childhood.

After Surveying my partner Mandi, I was pressed to find an article of clothing to talk about. Then I noticed her Black Knitted pullover that also covered her like a gigantic turtle-neck. The article of clothing looked extremely warm, stylish, and had a since of elegance to it. This article reminded me of my mother so I was pressed to ask about what she liked about this pull over and in return I found out a lot about her.

First off, Mandi Bought this piece of clothing a couple of months ago at a store referred to as, "Forever 21" she likes shopping here because you can get stylish clothes for an affordable price.

The Garment was extremely unique, and looked equally as comfortable. From speaking with Mandi I got the since that her personality reflected the over-coat.

When I asked her whether she preferred Fashion over Comfort she said not necessarily, however she loves to wear stilettos when ever she goes out and ironically, they do not hurt her feet. Mandi would much rather be comfortable because it allows her to focus on more important things.

The one thing that she would change about this garment is to make the sleeves longer. They stop at her elbows and she would much rather them go all the way down her arms.

One of the things that she loved most about this garment was the abnormally large buttons, she said it helped make the piece look fashionable and she liked them.

From listening to Mandi talk about her black pullover, I learned a lot about her personality, she likes to have a good time and look good while doing it. She also is pretty easy going and wants to be comfortable while looking good, whether she is in the classroom, or out on the town.

BLOG 6 Act. 3

The website that I had picked for this blog is StopGlobalWarming.org. I picked a pretty well known and explored topic of global warming because there is such a strong divergence that separates both sides of the issues. There are people who believe in it and really want to do all they can to help save the enviornment, and then their are those who choose to ignore it. Before I get to the website and how it relates to Activity 3, my stance is that pollution isn't a good thing. Greed and corrupt business practices are the reason why we don't have eletric cars, and Obama 08.' (Somewhat serious in that last statement)

The first thing I really like about this website and why I think it suits audiences that would be looking into an organization like this is they have a button that if you click it, that means you are suppotive of stopping global warming. I couldn't help feel proud of my efforts to stop global warming with the click of a button, but being number 1,240,936th person to click that button is a cool way to see how many people really care about this issue.

The second thing I like about this website is how simple it is. Its layout isn't complex, or really too interesting to look at, but less is more in this situation. The site is really easy to navigate and they have tips on how you can cut back on the size of your enviornmental foot print.

The third but most important thing, which I think is the most valuable part of this site, is that you can see actual personal accounts by members and the people that run the site. These personal accounts personalize the site, making the movement much more appealing than just a couple of facts.

BLOG 5 BAZERMAN

The article that I picked for this blog is Lester Faigley's article that we read a week or two ago.In just the first page the article uses examples that I believe are not those of Faigley's to show examples of writing non-academically. He later on exams that these examples are writing processes that are usually not done in the classroom. I feel that this article is extremely important for those who are interested in becoming writers because once you get out of the academic field, much of the writing that you will be apart of is out of classroom

Faigley goes on to comment that if somebody were to research and examine the examples that he used earlier, they would "Collect and Analysis the texts the writers produce." He then goes on to say that researchers would then look at the writing and decide what choices were made in composing the piece. He also pulls many different pieces from his colleges in the same field and uses actual examples of non academic writing to show exactly how the professionals do it in other non writing fields. He uses a passage from an actual anthropologist on page 56 to help him explain his position.

Through using articles to show examples of non academic writing and how it is done, Faigley's article can be helpful to readers who are confused about non-academic writing. Faigley builds on different articles by explaining them and what processes could be used in writing those articles. I feel that this is an instructional how too essay so I don't feel that he adds anything to prior publications, but uses the articles as examples and teaching tools for his readers.

301 Blog 4 Prior Tracing Process

When I view this document I can see many forms of Co-Authorship in pages E and 17. What I mean is that the Author had outside input from the teacher and one of their peers. This is an unavoidable process when people give you input on your work. Especially when you turn a text into an instructor. Many instructors do not take credit for the Co-Authorship these new young writers are not as experienced and know the things that the they know. Document E also is an example of Text Based interviewing by asking the author questions that challenge their writing process and make them think about the contents of their particular piece.

Before the instructor made comments on the Cover letter draft it showed the basic concepts which are Inscription, Composing, and text. This process is where people come up with their big ideas and outlines and is a very important part of following where a text is going. I can look at this draft, read the comments by the instructor, then go and look at the final draft to see what changes were made to the document. It is relatively easy to trace and can show you exactly where ideas came from. This draft was developed through the writers job skill free write and the writers Audience Free write.

The project obviously started with the Initiating text. It told the author exactly what needed to be accomplished in the text and which way to go about it. I believe that the last text produced was the writers response to the project. I feel that it is as important as the text itself because the writer states everything that he or she learned from the process.

It is a difficult and tedious process to try to trace texts, and see exactly what the history of that particular text is. But if you pay attention and try to follow certain examples and clues, you can figure out what a writers process was in going through with writing a certain text document. Many writers spend months on one particular document, that doesn't always mean that a writer was really lazy and spend an incredible amount of time on a single document, they had many drafts and revisions which make that document so much more interesting to see how it was written.

BLOG #3 Faigley

Going from Faigleys Social Perspective on writing, which "focuses on the process of composing, but this perspective understands process in far broader terms. In social perspective, writing processes donot start with"prewriting" and stop with "revising.""

The Social perspective is a continuous process of communitcation because when somebody reads a written text they are able to relay that information by letter or verbatium. They are "Links in the communicative chain." The examples in the text all show things that a social perspective writer needs to obtain. It all consists of "social relations, tensions, or conflicts that go beyond the text."

A person who takes on this task must have their own way to describe the world around them. They also need to know how language can create a since of "social identity." Kind of like how southerners refer themselves that way and act a certain way to portray that view to society. They also must know all sources of written media that they can reach readers through.

The research program would take all texts in a bigger view of writing. It would look at the writers thoughts and beliefs and how they came to think that way. It wouldn't only examine a persons composition but it would also go by where the information was obtained.

BLOG #2 Jack Selzner

Selzner convinces me that he has done extensive careful observation, because of how in depth his description of Nelsons writing practices are. He goes into Nelsons education, then talks about where he lives and exactly what he does. This article is very convincing because he goes into Nelsons writing style, which by the article he comes up with the main idea, gets all of his points out there then doesn't think twice about changing it. A lot of my writing is done like that. Selzner also goes into Nelson's arrangement style in his papers. Nelson creates an outline, then marks groups and sub groups. When he drafts he uses pen and paper, a lot of times he uses material that he has written previously. He makes an important point at the end, he states that just because this is what Nelson does that it isn't exactly the writing process of all engineers. Many can do it another way. I feel that he went through every step of the writing process to show us this that it proves that he definitely did all the extensive research necessary to make this article work.

Blog #1 Types of Writers

Creative:
Creative writing is the aspect of writing that interests me the most. I feel that this is something that I will be involved with in my career and it is what I love to do. You can break creative writers up into several categories, you have your authors, (Novels, fiction, non-fiction, short story, poems, etc...) there are songwriters, play-writes, sitcom writers, comedians, sketch writing, and screenplay writing. I am a professional comedian so most of my writing energy go into my material that I like to preform onstage.

Other brands of writers include those in the legal system stenographers, people who put subpoenas together, even lawyers do a good bit of writing for their profession. Media and newspaper writers, magazine article writers, commercials, business, advertisement, medical. There are an infinite number of fields that writers can be involved in.

I would like to build on my creative writing, in order to do that and become a better writer, I feel that I need to learn as much about every type of writing that I can.
